What Does ‘Grnidone’ Mean?
I get asked all the time about the meaning of ‘grnidone’ and what is means and why I chose the nick.
It all started with the James Clavell novel “Noble House.” In that book is a character called “The Green Eyed Devil”. As a 14 year old kid, I thought this was the neatest name for a character EVER. And I was determined to get a personalized plate for my car with the nick of
GRNIDVL
GRN = Green
ID = Eyed
DVL = Devil
But then, I got older and realized that personalized plates on cars were … lame.
But, when I got to college and needed a mainframe account of no more than 8 letters, I knew that I was going to use GRNIDVL as my nick. And so it was.
But then I got weird email from bible beaters who were convinced I was going to hell just for using the name ‘devil’ in my nick. I got sick of this because literally people would find me, come up and preach. *sigh*
So, the nick changed to
GRNIDLDY
for “Green Eyed Lady.”
But then I got really really weird emails and personal messages from god knows who on the internet who wanted to do perverted things just because my nick indicated I was female. And, being a woman in IT, I had to deal with enough of the testosterone bullshit without getting it from online sources as well.
I wanted something ambiguous. Something where people would have to think…something…unique.
And so, came about
GRNIDONE
for “Green Eyed One”.
Most people I talk to in person can’t believe I am female. A good thing because they look at what I say and not who it comes from. They tend never to forget the name because it is so weird. Two good things.
But they usually believe the nick is Grid Iron, or GRN Uh Dun. I don’t really care so long as they remember the name.
But now you know.
