Having lived in Germany for several years, I am astounded that any German department would even think of complaining about equating people not washing with being hygenic. Have you ever been on a tram on a hot day?? If you grew up next door to a pig farm (like me) or around feed lots, the smell might not bother you.
As for the French, those enlightened keepers of all things "proper", what else can you say about a people who eat snails and absue fowl so they can have http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Foie_gras ??

where can i get a Burquini? I think it's beautiful. The white bathing suit is also beautiful. But I don't think it would look good on me.

And here's what i always wonder about, speaking of hygiene - do people try on thongs before they buy them? Are they still supposed to wear their underwear when trying on bathing suits (in my bikini wearing days, there were signs posted in dressing rooms, to keep your undies on) - and if the girls were wearing thongs in the first place, does that count?

I don't get it. I don't even get WHY someone would want the string up their wazoo. It's gorgeous, I get that, but who needs to show strangers all their secrets?

I guess that makes sense if they don't ever wash their underwear, but that could apply if they don't wash out their swimsuit as well...thong or other wise.

Well they are saying that some disgusting folks actually keep wearing their undies underneath them shorts And that in all of that fabric germs, bacteriae and what not may find a rather nice place to grow. Which does make sense.
Besides ( this is probably missing the point ) the aesthetic appeal of a thong...

Only the Germans would estimate how much water is lost due to extra fabric. But really, I'm just not understanding the hygiene issue. I mean, unless someone rolls in the mud beforehand, how is more fabric more of a hygiene issue than less? I'm just not seeing it...

I cant remember where but I actually read that they are banning 'surfer' shorts in some german baths because of hygiene and an estimated 10% water loss.
