Recycling Your Old Computer Equipment

Filed under: Foo — Heather @ 10:11 am

Every computer geek has old monitors and computers they want to get rid of, but for some reason haven’t.  Now, they are too old to sell.  What to do?  Well, thankfully, there are places that will recycle old computers and CRT monitors that never seem to die.  The Computer Take Back Campaign has news and a complete list of companies willing to recycle computers and old monitors.

The “Recyling your Computer” PDF summarizes many of the larger computer manufacturers policies regarding computer recycling.  Many companies have a free take back of your old computer and monitor with a new purchase over a certain amount, but most companies will also take back items if you are not making a new purchase for a fee.

Fees for most manufacturers are around, around $30 per item which includes the shipping price.  Dell, however, stands out as the consumer friendly recycler, and will allow you to recycle up to 5 computers/ or components from any manufacturer for only $10 apiece.  This is easily the cheapest alternative if you do not have free recycling in your area.
